The Future

 My professional goals for the next five to ten years are in a way on hold for my education. I know for sure that I will be spending the next two years focusing on my Masters degree. This will give me the ability to run and eventually open my own lab for environmental testing. By doing so I will free up more of my time to work for the charities that are important to me.

The societal changes that worry me right now is the ability of our politicians and media to help cause discourse within us a population, along with a generation of children who don't seem to have respect for others. If things don't change soon I am terrified for the world my children will live in. There tends to be a misunderstanding about what a protest is and how it is different from rioting. If you are supporting a cause why are you destroying life long dreams of those that belong to your cause. The divide between Americans seem to be getting larger and larger and if this doesn't change I foresee another civil war. 

I am optimistic for the future, my daughter has decided that she wants to follow my footsteps in going to GCC for her associates degree, and then to ASU for her Bachelors. This will make her the third generation to attend ASU.

Another Semester Wraps Up

 As I finish this semester I look back at all the craziness that is COVID. This wasn't a normal semester by any stretch of the imagination. My instructors did the best they could when it came to my lab classes, however, it isn't the same as getting the hands on experience. There is a major difference in watching someone use equipment or look at what they see under a microscope versus actually using the equipment ourselves and working with the microscope.  Group projects are even harder because you never get actual face to face time with your team members like you would if you were in class. It is much easier for them to ignore the texts and calls when you are trying to complete projects versus catching up with them in class. All in all while this semester was a rocky one, I have to say I am impressed with how everyone handled the changes that were thrown at them. My College Experience

I am an older scholar so my plans have changed rapidly throughout all the years. My parents drilled into me that I would go to college right out of high school. So like a good daughter, I did go to community college right out of high school with a plan to get a business degree and go into accounting. I only chose this because my dad was an accountant and I saw he made decent money so why not. I literally had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Then, I ended up getting pregnant so I quit college, and went to work. Several years later I found myself working for an environmental consultant and becoming really interested in the analytical side of things which required me to get my biology degree if I really wanted to take things to the next level. The Future

As we are getting ready to wrap up another semester in the next month I am beginning to realize that my college education is almost done. Come December I should have my bachelors degree and while I am excited about that, it leaves me wondering if I am done with my college education at that point or if I should go for my Masters, or even my Ph.D. I keep weighing the options about what to do and I honestly don't think that I am ready for my education to be over, and that I definitely want to be involved in more research in fungus and how it grows and affects the human body. It is becoming more clear that while I am reaching what I originally thought was my end goal in December, it is only going to be a stepping stone.
